Summary - During WWI, the Ottoman Empire which had sided with the Central Powers ruled over vast lands in the Middle East. The Treaty of Versailles gave Great Britain and France control over the region which proceeded to carve out nations that make up Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, and Iraq. Eventually the Balfour Deceleration would help establish the Jewish state of Israel in Palestine. Blog

Assignment - Choose a current conflict in Iraq, Israel/Palestine, Jordan, Syria or Lebanon and discuss how its problems trace back to the end of WWI. Propose a diplomatic (non-violent) solution to solve the problem (example: creating a Palestinian state in Israel along specified boundaries...)

In Iraq there has been many problems since World War One, because France and Great Britain were given the power of how to break it up and make up the borders for it the land. This was a problem because there were three different ethnic groups that were put into Iraq, the Kurds, Shiittes, and Sunnis. They all had different beliefs and they were all put into one place and they called it Iraq, and called them Iraqis. This is still a problem now because they still want their own land because they all have different beliefs and they don't want to live together. If i had the chance to break it up and make up the borders I would give each group there own land and own types of government of what they wanted i would break up the land evenly and fairly and compromise with each group. so that there would be no more conflicts about what happened almost 100 years ago.
